Food artistry from the soul

Isidora Popovic set up Popina in 2000 after graduating from a Contemporary Art course at Goldsmiths College in London.

Popina started as an art piece exhibited at a group show in 1999. It was a live piece where a three course meal based on genuine medieval recipes was served as tiny, bite sized morsels from a deli style, glass display counter (Popina means tavern or eatery in Latin). In Isidora's words: "it was food for art's sake that was so inspiring it strengthened my desire to set up a food business that was about art for food's sake". In 2000, with initial help from The Prince's Trust, Popina Limited started trading, providing catering services for art events and themed private functions.

From the very beginning the Popina ethos was based around the idea of 'supercreativity'. Isidora passionately believes that through its inspired and unexpected combinations of ingredients Popina can continue to deliver the most thrilling gastronomic experience.
At Popina we are dedicated to creating extraordinary products that can be appreciated with all the senses, so quality is the absolute paramount. We use the freshest, natural, seasonal ingredients sourced locally whenever possible.
We are driven by generosity and imagination; Our creativity follows no rules, only one principle: authentic, original food.

Popina history.
In 2001 Isidora opened the first Popina market stall in the famous Portabello Road in Notting Hill, London, offering unique, hand made treats such as Ginger and Caramelised Chilli biscuits, hand sliced Vintage Cheddar and Chives Crackers and wafer thin Fig, Apricot and Pistachio Biscotti. Selling from a market stall allowed Isidora to talk directly to her customers, gathering valuable personal impressions, which further inspired her and led to the creation of the current Popina range. Since then Popina has established contacts with some of London's most prestigious food buyers. Today you can find Popina product in the fresh bakery departments of UK's finest food halls and delis as well as from Popina Farmers' Market stalls across London.

Popina methods and ingredients
All our products are made daily from scratch. The ingredients we use are sourced for their quality from the UK and around the world. Organic stone ground English flour, English free range and organic eggs, organic British butter and organic raw cane sugar are components that in various combinations comprise the basis of all Popina creations. These simple elements are the very essence our Award winning range of hand made sweet and savoury tarts, biscuits, crackers and brownies.

In our kitchen each week somebody cracks 6000 eggs, by hand.

Popina's unique savoury tart recipe combine indulgent and healthy eating in each one of its incarnations. Unlike the traditional short crust, the Popina tart casing is made with organic flour, virgin olive oil and parsley so it's much thinner and lighter and bursting with fillings.
